Eastern Hills Senior High School (SHS) is seeking applications from suitably qualified Health and Physical Education Teachers to fill the position of Head of Learning Area (HOLA) - Health and Physical Education position commencing 2018.

Suitable applicants will have a proven ability to work as part of a learning team and provide high quality Leadership which enhances learning experiences for all students. Within this role you will be provided the opportunity to work with staff across Years 7 to 12 applying your knowledge of Health and Physical Education, whilst using best practice teaching and learning principles in the delivery of the curriculum. In addition the HOLA is a member of school’s Senior Leadership which works collaboratively to implement school policy and procedures. The Health and Physical Education programs in the school include Health Years 7 – 12, Physical Education Years 7 – 10, Physical Education Studies, Outdoor Education and Sports Programs including AFL, Netball, Soccer and Basketball. A number of courses are also offered as VET. The school facilities include Gymnasium, playing fields, outdoor courts and swimming pool.
Eastern Hills SHS is located 40 km east of Perth at Mount Helena serving a range of communities located mostly in the Mundaring Shire. The school has an extensive curriculum offering. This provides opportunities for students to follow pathways suited to their aspirations and needs. The school is a partner in the New North Education Initiative, an Aspire UWA school and has developed links with ECU to further enhance the curriculum. The school has a large music program which, due to its high standards, has been awarded the status of Approved Specialist Program.
The school has in recent years been undergoing revitalisation of facilities, ethos and practice. This has resulted in an enhanced learning environment in which students can engage with learning in a modern, dynamic manner. The school has developed as a learning community based on respect and collaboration resulting in it being recognised as a leader in the implementation of the positive behaviour in schools programs.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for fixed term or permanent appointments to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
