The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN:MMH) is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join their team as Visiting Teacher in the Pilbara region, based in Karratha.
Our mission is to provide quality educational services to students whose physical or mental health presents difficulties in accessing their usual educational program and to facilitate students’ entry or return to a program that best meets their ongoing needs.
SSEN:MMH is a dynamic and highly experienced teaching team who work across the state responding to diverse student needs within a holistic framework of family, students' enrolled schools (both government and non-government), community support systems and the health community. The Visiting Teacher works within the interdisciplinary team at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to support the educational, medical and psychosocial needs of students and serve as a link between Health and Education.
The main objectives of the role are to consolidate and develop health and education partnerships, improve communication and collaboration between CAMHS and schools in the Pilbara, enhance educational outcomes for students with mental health issues, and improve liaison between CAMHS clinicians, schools and regional staff.
The successful applicant will ideally have good knowledge of education matters and systems to provide information to clinicians, as well as providing information and strategies to schools for referred students. The role requires sound curriculum knowledge and pedagogy, tact and diplomacy, effective negotiation skills and empathy. Working collaboratively with others and being open to their opinions and perspectives is desirable to ensuring that as a team we deliver services that meet client needs.
The Visiting Teacher will be required to travel cross-site to schools, other agencies, hospitals and student homes throughout the Pilbara region and it is therefore desirable for applicants to possess a motor vehicle driver’s licence.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
