Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and enthusiastic individual to the position of Peer Support Worker for the new East Metro Youth Unit (EMyU), opening at Bentley Health Service. In this role, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will use your lived experience of mental health issues and recovery to provide social, emotional and practical support to youth consumers (16 to 24 year olds receiving mental health inpatient care and treatment) on an individual and group basis. You will also assist with identifying their needs for wellness, options for recovery and support to navigate their way through the mental health services towards discharge. The role promotes hope for recovery, choice and self-determination, and the importance of living well using shared experiential knowledge, skills and strategies for living with mental health issues and recovery. Ability to relate well to and engage effectively with youth is essential.
The EMHS Youth Mental Health Unit (EMyU) will be a 12-bed inpatient service that provides 24 hour, 7 day a week, mental health inpatient care and treatment for young people aged 16 to 24 years, presenting with complex and acute mental health issues, with a focus on early episode interventions (The Peer Support Worker will be expected to work during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 38 hours per fortnight. Days / times to be negotiated with the successful applicant).
It provides assessment, treatment and community care planning for youth experiencing complex and severe mental health problems. This includes psychosis, depression, severe anxiety, post-traumatic stress, risk of self-harm or suicide and emerging personality disorder.
