This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2018.
Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to engage an individual who has a passion for working with adolescents in a flexible training environment.
The successful applicant will have expertise in Vocational Education and Training (VET) to coordinate and manage all aspects of training delivery, Registered Training Organisations (RTO) requirements.
In this role you will oversee the delivery of courses, whilst engaging and mentoring students in training and assessment processes and reporting on the training packages offered at Newton Moore SHS and partner RTOs. There are often many competing interests for a VET Coordinator’s time and attention, so an ability to prioritise and delegate tasks is essential.
The successful applicant will be student focussed, highly motivated and able to demonstrate an engaging and energetic supervising/mentoring style that also provides for curriculum differentiation that will engage students with wide ranging abilities, skills and levels of participation. You will need to have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience in VET and possession of a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is highly desirable.
As Coordinator, Vocational Education and Training you will work with students, teachers, parents, the wider school community and a range of Registered Training Organisations to plan, develop and implement a successful VET program that is innovative, meets students’ needs and those of local industry. A key responsibility of the successful applicant's role will be to lead and promote by expanding partnerships and growing opportunities for School-based Traineeships (SBT) and Aboriginal School-based Traineeships (ASBT). VET at our school involves Year 10, 11 and 12 students
The ability to manage student groups and impart the required knowledge and skills is highly desirable. In addition, you would form industry links and networks to attract meaningful industry work for students. The successful applicant would design and develop quality training programs, assessment tools and supporting materials to deliver the curriculum to students. Delivery and assessment may include interaction in the classroom, workshop and in the industry field.
Non-teaching staff at Newton Moore SHS make an important contribution to student progress and achievement through the support of school management, teaching practice and the maintenance of positive relationships with students, parents and the community at Newton Moore SHS. Additionally, support staff contribute to outcomes that align with the school vision, business plan and other operational targets by providing assistance to the teaching staff, student services and pastoral care team and school administration.
Newton Moore SHS is an Independent Public School (IPS) located in Bunbury, a coastal city 175kms south of Perth. We have a strong commitment to offering innovative and best practice educational programs. The school delivers two Department of Education Approved Specialist Academic Programs: Science Horizons and Engineering Specialist. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Considerable knowledge and competency in the industry, vocation or professional field relevant to this position.
- Knowledge and understanding of the National Skills Framework, including Training Packages, Australian Qualifications Framework, AQTF, Recognition of Prior Leaning and competency-based training and assessment.
- Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
- Well developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including young people.
- Well developed initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as a member of a team.

ELIGIBILITY

- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
