About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to join us on a permanent basis as a Senior Analyst in the Energy Markets division. This division is responsible for ERA’s roles and responsibilities under the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and Gas Services Information (GSI) Rules and performing other energy market related functions.
The position is based in the Strategic Projects team of the Energy Markets division.
The key responsibilities include:
- undertaking a variety of complex and sensitive projects that involve data extraction, review, analysis, developing models, processes and systems to provide relevant information and output;
- analysing market data using software packages and statistical software tools and techniques to simulate, understand and track market behaviour;
- conducting ongoing and developing new analysis to ensure the effectiveness of the WEM, including investigation of anomalous market behaviour, possible market design flaws, exercise of market power and/or structural problems;
- defining and maintaining an efficient database model to handle the large volumes of data required to monitor the WEM and suggest improvements using emerging technologies;
- providing regular updates and/or advice to the Executive and Governing Body on the WEM and related matters as required;
- contributing to the ERA’s wholesale energy market function and engaging with stakeholders to advocate the ERA’s role; and
- preparing reports detailing the analysis and recommendations as required under the market rules.
Suitable applicants will possess qualifications in a relevant discipline, strong communication and stakeholder management skills and the ability to contribute to an innovative regulatory environment. The position requires substantial experience in conducting complex quantitative analysis and handling large volumes of data and ability to maintain and enhance database. The position also requires the ability to prepare clear and well-structured reports to effectively communicate complex economic, commercial and regulatory issues in a form that non-technical readers can understand.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies (vacancies could be permanent or fixed term contract with possibility of extension/permanency) that occur throughout ERA for 6 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
