The North Metropolitan Education Regional Office is seeking to appoint a motivated and pro-active individual into the role of Coordinator – Regional Vocational Education and Training (VET).This is a School Administrator Level 3 position and is based at North Metropolitan Region Education Office in Stirling. The North Metropolitan Education Region comprises over 230 public schools servicing students in the Northern Metropolitan area of Western Australia. Of these, 39 schools provide VET programs to mostly upper secondary students.
This position works in partnership with Statewide Services and supports schools to:
- meet the delivery and assessment requirements of Vocational Education and Training and the Australian Quality Training Framework;
- identify the implicit, as well as explicit, literacy and numeracy demands of specific qualifications • understand the teaching and learning considerations required when working with students who require support to meet the literacy and numeracy requirements of a qualification;
- choose from, contextualize and implement a range of age appropriate, evidence based teaching strategies to support students to meet the literacy and numeracy requirements of a qualification;
- understand the relationships between the ACSF, OLNA and Western Australian Curriculum;
- identify and address the embedded literacy and numeracy requirements within VET qualifications; and
- implement strategies that target ‘at risk’ students.
The Region also works collaboratively with the K-12 Coordination Branch and Secondary Pathways and Transition Branch to:
- provide professional development for VET Coordinators and Teachers in schools;
- deliver policy advice to schools ;
- develop and allocate resources ;
- manage projects and contracts for service ; and
- develop quality assurance processes for programs aimed at improving educational outcomes for students.
The successful applicant will benefit from having recent school experience in the area of VET. To be successful in this role you will ideally have professional knowledge of teaching practices and the ability to apply this knowledge to support school administrators and practitioners especially in VET and LLN. An excellent knowledge of policies and procedures surrounding VET and Workplace Learning delivery in schools is also of benefit. High level interpersonal communication skills are highly desirable including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with external departments and stakeholders such as DTWD, RTOs and TAFEs. The successful applicant will be required to travel to schools within the region and across regions as well as meet with industry groups and training partners as necessary.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for fixed term appointments to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- High-level knowledge and understanding of the policies, principles, trends and issues associated with VET for school students in Western Australia.
- Professional knowledge of teaching practices and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes are achieved for all VET students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Skills in providing strategic and professional leadership and to facilitate complex and varied partnerships.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and organisational skills in developing, implementing, supporting and reviewing successful programs at an operational and strategic level.
- Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to facilitate professional learning and work cooperatively with personnel across a range of backgrounds.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy; and
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
