Technical Officer Materials (Trainee)

Main Roads is looking to offer a number of traineeships in Laboratory testing of road construction materials. There are several traineeships available across the Metropolitan and Regional areas –
1 position – South Hedland, Pilbara Region;
1 position – Derby, Kimberley Region;
1 position – Geraldton, Mid-West Gascoyne Region;
1 position – Boulder/Kalgoorlie, Goldfields-Esperance Region; and
Up to 3 positions at the Materials Engineering Branch located in Welshpool, Perth.

About the Traineeship
The Technical Officer Materials traineeship involves a mixture of physical and mechanical laboratory, field and on road testing of soils, aggregates and concrete associated with road and bridge, design and construction. During the traineeship your working environment will include sampling and testing in laboratories, quarries, gravel pits and onsite at some of our largest road infrastructure projects.
Successful completion of the Technical Officer Materials traineeship will take two years and will involve extensive on the job training and the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. With a satisfactory work ethic and performance you will receive a progressive salary increase with further opportunities to continue towards other qualifications with on the job training and assessment.

The starting salary for Technical Officer Materials trainees is Level 1 with the increment dependent on recognised prior learning and relevant industry experience.
