An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, passionate and highly proficient educator to undertake a unique teaching position working with students aged between 10 and 12 years of age who are educationally at risk and culturally diverse.

This cross-agency position will be part of a team partnered with WA Police, Save the Children and Department of Education to provide a tailored teaching and learning program to engage these students with their learning and develop programs of teaching and learning that meet their individual needs.
This position will be based at Cecil Andrews College and will be supported by Youth Workers, AIEO’s and School Psychologists. The teacher will form an integral part of this learning team.
The teacher will report to the school principal and be directed by a Steering Committee as developed by the Armadale Youth Intervention Partnership (AYIP). AYIP will be supporting this teaching and learning program with excursions and incursions along with school holiday programs for the students who are engaged with AYIP.
Cecil Andrews College provides exemplary education to children from Year 7 to Year 12. Located in Seville Grove, we do not have a prescribed local intake area so we welcome children from across the State to apply to enrol.

The role of the Teacher – Armadale Youth Intervention Partnership:
- Provides support to 10-12 year old students who have very low literacy and numeracy by developing and using literacy and numeracy strategies in a way that is culturally appropriate and tailored to individual learning styles
- Supports development of self-regulation to 10-12 year olds who have very low ability to self-regulate and have a good understanding of trauma informed practice
- Has the capacity to deal with up to 15 of these students at one time
- Develops, implements, monitors and reviews plans, policies and programs associated with AYIP
- Develops, implements, monitors and reviews the provision of individualised learning programs for all students involved in the program
- Works well with other agencies and stakeholders in a multi-disciplinary team, including local Aboriginal elders, to develop and implement the goals of AYIP, developing and maintaining good relationships
- Provides professional leadership, professional development, coaching and mentoring programs to build capacity in school staff and school networks
- Liaises with Principals, internal and external stakeholders regarding the transition of students from a Primary school context to a High School context
- Provides information and support to enable families to make informed choices about the educational provision for their child
- Provides input to the development of policies and procedures that promote positive educational outcomes for students involved in AYIP
- Contributes to the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the targeted programs, plans, strategies and approaches and develops appropriate strategies to support improvement
- Collects, analyses and interprets quality data and contextual information to guide the formulation of appropriate programs and recommend support for AYIP students
- Exhibits strong organisational skills including the ability to create structured and predictable in-class routines
The successful applicant will ideally possess:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning practices and requirements in the area of literacy and numeracy
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes
- Extensive skills and experience in the development and implementation of learning programs and strategies at a school, region or system level
- Well-developed communication and presentation skills, including experience in preparing reports; and
- The ability to provide strategic leadership, deal effectively with change and generate innovative solutions related to the literacy and numeracy issues
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for fixed term appointments to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
