This is a permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2017
Busselton Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a reliable and hardworking Gardener - Handyperson with significant gardening knowledge to join our friendly team.
The successful applicant will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in a clean and tidy condition and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. The gardener also maintains tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition and provides advice and support to the Manager Corporate Services on school grounds maintenance. In addition the successful applicant will ensure that formal and informal sports areas are marked as required and perform minor repairs and maintenance in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. To be successful as Gardener - Handyperson you should be confident in performing minor repairs and be able to perform all duties using safe work practices.
Steeped in history, Busselton PS was first established in the 1850s. Originally located in the centre of town it was recently relocated to the east end of town. The school is known for its gardens. The roses were transplanted from the original school site and are enjoyed by the community and have won Best Rose at the Busselton Show. The school is nestled between the shores of Geographe Bay, the heritage listed Vasse-Wonnerup Estuary Wetlands and within walking distance of Port Geographe Marina.
Busselton PS is the smallest of the government schools within the Shire of Busselton, providing a positive and welcoming environment to its students. With student numbers in the low 300s its' size is at a level where everyone is known and valued.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for fixed term or permanent appointments to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
