Do you have experience, in and/or a keen interest, in working within a cross cultural framework? A unique opportunity presents itself to work in a highly collaborative, collegial environment as part of a dynamic team of school psychologists in the Goldfields Education Region of Western Australia.
The Goldfields Education Region is seeking to appoint two dedicated and dynamic School Psychologists to join the region. Please note these positions offer the possibility of a job share arrangement for suitable applicants who are prepared to work collaboratively.
These positions will be hosted at Boulder Primary School and will be servicing a number of schools across the region. Travel to schools outside the Kalgoorlie-Boulder area is a component of the role and may require being away from home for periods of time. The successful applicants will join a vibrant and dynamic team of school psychologists and be well supported by your School Psychologist colleagues and two Lead School Psychologists. It would be desirable to have experience working in a cross cultural context or interested in expanding your skills in this area.
This position offers an attractive salary and benefits package:
- A salary of between $73,052 and $122,689

The School Psychologist is responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified clients, applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with school personnel, parents, caregivers and other agencies. They will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs, and operate as a member of a collaborative and coordinated student services team.
The Goldfields education region comprises 54 schools spread over a vast area of the south eastern corner of Western Australia, and ranges from Wiluna in the North to Esperance in the South, and from Lake King in the West across to the South Australian and Northern Territory boarders in the East. The Goldfields-Esperance region is the largest of Western Australia's regions, with an area of 771,276 km². The climate is mostly hot and dry. The region has a population of approximately 59,000 people, about half of whom live in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Another quarter live in the Shire of Esperance, and the remaining shires are very sparsely populated. The economy of the Goldfields sub-region is based predominantly on the extraction and processing of various mineral resources, primarily gold and nickel. Further south near Esperance, the economy is based on agriculture and fishing, with wheat and barley widely grown.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our region for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention;
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills;
- Interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Departmental personnel and interagency partners across a variety of contexts;
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia;
- hold a suitable tertiary qualification in Education;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
