THE ROLE
The Graduate Support Officer role assists the school’s Business Manager/Corporate Services Manager/Registrar to undertake a broad range of business activities across a number of corporate service areas which may include:
- human resource management
- financial management
- school and student administration
- information and communication technology management
- promotions and public relations and
- buildings and asset management.
If you are the successful applicant for this role, you will also have the opportunity to develop and maintain strong relationships with the school-based and general community.
THE PROGRAM
The School Corporate Services Graduate Program is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates, or students due to graduate in December 2017, to kick-start a career in the education sector.
A key goal of the Graduate Program is to develop future school corporate services staff who possess an adaptable and transferable skill set in areas such as:
- human resources and finance
- business writing and communication skills
- networking and interpersonal skills
- team member skills
- research, conceptual and analytical skills within a school environment.
School Placement
The Graduate Program operates during the 11 months of the school year, from mid-January to mid-December 2018.
As the successful applicant, you may be placed at one school for the full 11 months or for two five-and-half month placements at two different schools during this time, depending on operational requirements.
Professional Learning
The program includes the following professional learning activities:
- mentoring
- the Graduate Future Leaders Program coordinated by the Public Sector Commission (5 days)
- work shadowing - one day per school term with a central office expert in the areas of Workforce, Finance, Information and Communication Technology, and Corporate Communications and Marketing (4 days)
- complete any other training required under the Department’s policies (refer to the job description).
WHO ARE WE SEEKING?
To be eligible for the program you are required to meet the following eligibility criteria. We are keen to hear from you if you have:
- completed an undergraduate or post graduate degree within the last five years (or due to complete by December 2017), in academic areas, including:
- Business
- Commerce
- Accounting
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
- Project Management
- Procurement and similar areas of study
- Public Relations or Communications
- Public Policy
- Industrial Relations
- Employment Law
- Other equivalent discipline or combined degrees
- a good level of academic achievement, with a course average of 65% or above
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency status
a current Department of Education Criminal Clearance (if offered a position)
- a current Working with Children Check (if offered a position).
