The Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia (DAFWA) Invasive Species Program is looking for a Technical Officer who understands the diverse needs of the agricultural and pastoral industries in control of declared pests.
This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient management of the permit application and assessment process.
This core regulatory role ensures the risks of use of restricted poisons and impacts of declared invasive species are mitigated through the permit frameworks under the Medicines and Poisons Act 2014 and Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 respectively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and coordinating the process for assessment of permit applications, including but not limited to assessing permit applications, understanding the requirements of the permit framework under the relevant legislation and ensuring permits are processed in a timely manner.
- Liaising with clients in relation to permit applications.
- Liaising with technical experts and Biosecurity Officers in the assessment of these permits.
- Identifying and implementing improvements to the administration and assessment processes and criteria.
An acceptable National Police Certificate (police clearance), or equivalent, is an essential pre-employment

Level Ranges: This position will suit an individual who can provide unsupervised technical support and has experienced high level technical support under general direction. The level of appointment upon commencement will depend on qualifications, skills and/or experience.
Level 1 $23,869 – $57,376 pa (Provides supervised routine support)
Level 2 $59,172 - $64,256 pa (Provides unsupervised technical support)
Level 3 $67,896 - $73,717 pa (Provides experienced high level technical support under general direction)
Level 4 $76,452 - $80,797 pa (Provides high level support in a defined technical area)
Level 5 $85,047 - $93,994 pa (Provides high level support in a broad expertise area)
Tenure: Fixed term opportunity until 30 September 2019. Consideration may then be given to offering a further term(s) or permanent appointment, subject to conditions.
