Spencer Park Primary School is situated in an established area of Albany on the south coast of Western Australia. The school has developed a rich history and tradition since its inception in 1959. Our school is an Independent Public School seeking a Deputy Principal committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. You will work as a part of a dedicated team and have the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school community.
In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the school leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. The successful applicant will have a focus on student learning and student achievement and have a detailed understanding of the school’s focus on implementing an explicit instruction school wide pedagogy, particularly as this relates to the work of John Fleming.
The successful applicant will also need to be committed to building quality communication with all stakeholders have the ability to work in a collaborative team environment and be able to develop strong community relationships and links.
We are looking for someone who has a clear understanding of our school profile and ideally has a demonstrated capacity to work effectively across the socio economic and cultural spectrum and is willing to maintain the ethos described above.
In addition your covering letter should also demonstrate the following understandings, skills and abilities involved with this specific role:
- High level capacity to manage student behaviour by building strong relationships, having a demonstrated knowledge of what works, particularly with boys, and by being able using a wide range of positive behaviour management and pastoral care strategies.
- Demonstrated understanding of the WA Curriculum and significant experience in training and up-skilling teachers in this area.
- Demonstrated capacity in supporting teachers managing students with disabilities in their classrooms.
- Demonstrated understanding of the processes involved in accessing Departmental funding available for students with disabilities.
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources, this includes the timetabling of staff and use of facilities and resources across the school.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
