The Learning and Professional Development Directorate plays a key role in the achievement of the Department’s Strategic Platforms by providing essential services. The Directorate will be accountable for developing and delivering training including conducting assessment and selection process to establish ongoing pools of available entry level candidates to achieve the Department’s vision of Right People – Trained right. The Directorate’s Business Services Branch is accountable for the management of the Learning and Professional Development Directorate’s business operations, finances and facilities and the Department’s recruitment process for entry-level operational staff.
Role
1. Assistant Director Business & Resources Level 7
The Assistant Director is accountable for ensuring that business services within the Academy operations supports the delivery of the core business of training. This involves managing the Academy and accommodation site to ensure optimisation of resources, a safe learning environment, prudent financial management by applying their passion, energy and commitment to ensuring the Academy is a centre for excellence in learning.
We are looking for a competent Assistant Director to support the Director in the resource planning and management of the physical and financial assets. This role will be responsible for overseeing all events and ensure ceremonies are conducted with appropriate protocols in place. This position will coordinate the timely recruitment and appointment of the entry level bulk recruitment of custodial and community trainees as required to meet the Departments SSSR mission.
The Assistant Director will be a competent multi-skilled critical thinker, who can manage staff to get the best from them.
2. Assistant Director Operational Training – Level 7
The Assistant Director is a leadership role supporting the Director in achieving the Departments Vision Mission and Values. Demonstrated strong, effective communication skills and the ability to manage people to get the best from them are integral. The Academy is a Registered Training Organisation that delivers best practice operational training to entry level custodial and non - custodial staff as well as operational and professional development training to all DCS employees.
The Assistant Director will manage and lead a team of managers in the administration and delivery of operational training around the state. The suitable person will be required to coordinate the resources and delivery of training, learning and development needs at the individual, business group and department level.
The Assistant Director/s we are seeking will have proven and demonstrated strengths in:

The Assistant Director/s responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing plans and goals for the Learning & Development section of the department
- Work with the Director to coordinate and supervise daily operations
- Organises, supervises and reviews assigned accounts payable programs in order to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies
- Monitors attainment of objectives
- Undertakes staffing responsibilities (supervision, hiring, training, evaluating etc.)
- Assists in budgeting and monitoring expenses and supervises and maintains the integrity of the in-house financial system
- Maintains scheduling of events and represents the department when required
- Creates reports for submission to the Director and other executives
- Assist with ongoing change management of the Academy.
- Fulfil duties as assigned by the Director
