PROFESSIONAL LEGAL RESEARCH ASSISTANTS

SOLICITOR GENERAL, STATE SOLICITOR, DEPUTY STATE SOLICITOR & STATE COUNSEL
Role
The State Solicitor's Office is highly regarded as a leading legal service provider in Western Australia offering a broad range of legal services to the State Government and to a range of government departments and agencies. We are looking to recruit professional legal research assistants to fill positions in the Solicitor General's Office and the State Solicitor's Office.
THE POSITIONS
These full time positions will provide applicants with a unique opportunity to work closely with the most senior legal officers within government. Responsibilities include advanced research on a wide variety of topics, assisting in drafting legal opinions, submissions and correspondence and involvement in law reform. The work is interesting, diverse and challenging and will provide an excellent basis for a successful career in law.
Professional Assistants will receive remuneration at Level 4 PSGOGA, $76,452 per annum (as of 13 June 2016).
Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which fixed term, full time appointments may be made. The first appointments from this pool are expected to commence in January/February 2017 on a two year contract. The pool will operate for a twelve month period.
Following completion of the appointment Professional Assistants can reasonably expect, subject to performance, to be offered articles with the State Solicitor and to be employed through their restricted practice year.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants ideally should be in their penultimate year of study of law and be prepared to complete their study part-time over the two year period. Applications are also invited from legal graduates. Highly developed research, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills are essential. Applicants' legal academic results should be such that applicants can reasonably anticipate being invited into an Honours programme in law or equivalent advanced standing.

Work-Related Requirements
Appointment to a role with the Department of the Attorney General is conditional upon obtaining an employment screening clearance, which includes a National Criminal History Check and any other relevant checks.
