The Nursing and Midwifery Office are working collaboratively with NurseWest and WA Health mental health services supporting a NurseWest Mental Health Upskill initiative preparing comprehensively trained registered nurses to work in the mental health specialty.
Eligible applicants for this Upskill initiative must :
- Be employed by NurseWest as a level 1:2-1:3 RN
- Have registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Be ‘comprehensively’ trained
- Have a keen interest in the mental health specialty of nursing
- Ensure 100% attendance to the intensive theoretical component based at Notre Dame University Australia – Fremantle campus (see attached schedule)
- Commit to the minimum hours as stated within this online application.
Priority will be given to Australian citizens or those who have Australian permanent residency status at the time of application. New Zealand citizens in possession of a Special Category Visa are considered permanent residents.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Practices as a Registered Nurse using the Scope of Nursing Practice Decision Making Framework.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Applicants are advised to write a statement addressing the selection criteria and provide a detailed curriculum vitae which summarises your experience and how you are able to meet the position requirements (limit of 250 words per criteria).
When answering the selection criteria, use nursing examples from clinical experiences demonstrating your skills and knowledge in mental health care delivery wherever possible.

- Provide an example/s of how you assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
- Provide an example/s of where your effective communication skills within a multidisciplinary team has influenced patient care.

- Provide an example of how you ensure that your practice is of the highest professional standard with reference to the role of the relevant Standards of Practice, clinical guidelines and hospital policies.

- Provide details of what you consider is the primary role of a mental health nurse and how it relates to your previous experiences in health care delivery?
FOR FURTHER JOB RELATED INFORMATION:
Participants of the Mental Health (MH) Upskill initiative will develop fundamental skills and knowledge required for Mental Health nursing through an intensive education - employment model over 24 weeks. The MH Upskill participant will complete two units contributing to a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing & Allied Health, though the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) – funded by the Nursing and Midwifery Office.
Upskill placements will be provided in metropolitan mental health services, with the possibility of the WA Country Health Service providing opportunities too. The NurseWest recruitment staff will allocate placements to successful participants.
