Can you inspire and engage students’ passion for Music and Visual Arts?
Newborough Primary School (PS) is seeking a skilful, dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher to join our team to lead Music and Visual Arts.
The successful applicant would be responsible for providing a strong and vibrant Music program for all year levels from Pre-Primary to Year 6, consistent with the Western Australian Curriculum Arts Requirements. The successful applicant will also lead the junior and senior choirs; prepare, manage and direct school performances, such as the annual West Australian Government Schools Music Society (WAGSMS) concert; coordinate the School of Instrumental Music program; participate in various music festivals; and manage our highly anticipated whole school musical that is held each even year (2016, 2018, etc.)
The successful applicant will also work collaboratively with teachers and administration staff to prepare cost centre budgets and manage organisational tasks, such as planning, communications, arranging transport to and from performances, follow excursion policy and procedures, liaise with parents regarding costumes and provide feedback for organisation and performance improvement. Newborough PS staff are extremely supportive of the Music program, with several having backgrounds in music and performing arts and a strong willingness to assist at all levels.
The successful applicant will take a lead role in development of the Music and Visual Arts programs across the school. The Visual Arts component is a new dimension for the school, requiring curriculum knowledge and support to assist classroom teachers with implementation with their classes. The school is keen to explore possibilities to develop a band or musical ensemble, possibly in collaboration with other local schools. The successful applicant should also have excellent interpersonal skills to enable them to work closely with students, our dedicated staff and very supportive parents. A background in vocal and/or instrumental performance would be advantageous.
Newborough PS has just over 380 students and is located in Karrinyup. The school has a range of older traditional style classrooms, dedicated Music and Art/Science (Building Education Revolution) rooms, new Early Childhood facilities, and a well-resourced and open style Library. The grounds are very spacious with many older trees and open grasslands providing a lovely ambience. In recent years the school has grown significantly as urban renewal reinvigorates the area.
The school embraces the High Performance, High Care approach promoted by the Department of Education through the school’s Business Plan. Whilst there is an expectation for academic success, all students enjoy a broad range of learning experiences including the Music program, Physical Education and Japanese language specialities complementing a range of interests and learning styles. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
