THE POSITION
The position involves working both within and across two Residential Group Homes located in the suburbs of Bentley and Darlington. Each Group Home attempts to provide a home-like environment for young people who have significant backgrounds of maltreatment, neglect and disrupted attachment. These children require therapeutic care and support through their daily life interactions and relationship with the workers employed to provide care and support to these children, who work rostered shifts.
As a clinician and fully-integrated member of the team of care and support workers, you will fulfil a non-traditional role focusing upon -
- Relating authentically and personably with the workers providing support, information, modelling, opportunity for reflection and guidance;
- Providing clinical case management, coordinating appropriate treatment services for the young people as required;
- Relating directly with the children as opportunity arises to promote and enable their adjustment;
- Providing leadership to promote and maintain the therapeutic are practices necessary within the Group Home to meet the individual and collective needs of the young people.
CONDITIONS
This is a full -time, fixed term appointment for 12-months until 28th July 2017, with the possibility of extension and the possibility of permanency. Applications for a part-time, fixed term employment (no less than 37.5 hours per fortnight) for 12-months may also be considered.
You will be required to use your own vehicle to travel to meetings regarding the young people with eligibility to claim mileage. As this position involves working within the Group Homes, some additional requirements include –
1.A Senior First Aid Certificate must be obtained and maintained once appointed with successful applicant covering initial costs;
2.Obtaining accreditation in the use of protective intervention and restraints (training provided to the successful applicant by the Department);
3.All Group Homes are strictly non-smoking.
Applicants considered suitable, but not preferred may be considered for future similar full-time, part-time, permanent and fixed-term positions that may arise within the next twelve (12)-months.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Psychologist Level 2 and 3: Applicants must have full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia or be very close to completing a Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) approved Master’s Degree in Clinical Counselling or Forensic Psychology or approved equivalent. Applicants with practice area endorsement are encouraged to apply.

Please briefly address the following criteria only:
- Demonstrated ability to draw upon trauma and attachment theory to write brief, clear formulations for non-professional staff, to help them understand the child’s underlying distress and needs and respond appropriately to children’s concerning behaviour.
- Demonstrated ability to work without direction, efficiently scheduling, organising and completing tasks and activities toward planned, outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to immediate situations and demands.

All overseas qualifications must have been assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a certified copy of the assessment outcome letter from the APS must be submitted with your application.
