As a successful government school Spencer Park (PS) welcomes the enrolment of all comers no matter their ability, cultural or socio-economic background. This diversity, a mirror of the world we live in, is a great strength of this school. This school has developed an ethos that seeks to understand each child as an individual and nurture them in a way that gives them confidence and develops their talents, enabling them to achieve to their full potential.
Our school is an Independent Public School seeking a Principal committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. Since the beginning of 2012 Spencer Park Primary School has embarked on a journey guided by the work of John Fleming to embed an explicit instruction school wide pedagogy across the school. - The gradual release method of teaching
- Strategies aimed at embedding a child’s learning into their long term memory
- Implementing a range of quality curriculum resources (eg Soundwaves, Cars and Stars, Signposts Maths, JEMM/EMM, Jolly Phonics, PM Writing )
- Implementing a K – 6 Literacy Scope and Sequence
- Classroom teaching observation as a way of developing pedagogy
This has resulted in elevated student performance above what is expected for students in our school. Staff do believe strongly that all children can be successful learners and are keen to continue the journey when it comes to this approach to teaching and learning. Intensive professional learning has been provided to all staff in the time that the school has been involved in implementing this approach to teaching and learning
Well developed and embedded structures in relation to school planning, review, decision making and collaboration are in place.
Spencer Park PS has over the years endeavoured to maximise the opportunities that students have to experience both the breadth and depth that the curriculum can offer. The specialist areas of music and physical education have been particularly supported when it comes to involving our students in activities aimed at broadening their skills and interest in areas beyond the core curriculum areas of literacy and numeracy. A well respected and highly valued choral program in place for a long period in the school is an example of this ethos.
