Personnel and Payroll Services is responsible for the creation and maintenance of employee records on the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) to facilitate the accurate and timely payment of employees as well as the keeping of leave records. It also provides a first line advisory service to all users of the HRMIS.
As a Personnel and Payroll Officer, you will provide quality personnel and payroll information support to clients. To achieve this, you are required to develop and maintain good working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.In this role you will provide accurate and timely personnel and payroll services, including creating and maintaining employee records and process salary and allowance payments and deductions for income tax, overpayments and sundries.
Successful applicants will also ensure awards, agreements, legislation, policy and procedures to personnel and payroll activities. Additionally you will support continuous improvement for personnel and payroll processes in conjunction with other team members.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you need to demonstrate the following:
- Ability to understand and apply industrial instruments, legislation, policies and procedures.
- Well developed keyboarding and computer skills, including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide quality customer services.
- Organisational skills with the ability to use initiative, work independently, identify priorities and meet deadlines.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
