We have an opportunity available for a temporary short term appointment or secondment from interested personnel within other WA Government Departments /Agencies, with the possibility of extension to the position of Bushfire Risk Management Officer (BRMO) within DFES’s Bushfire Risk Management Branch.
This position will be working with the three Local Governments of Boddington, Woodanilling and West Arthur to assist and coordinate the development of bushfire risk management plans throughout these 3 LG areas. It is preferable that the applicant is based in the DFES office in Albany, however DFES is prepared to consider re-locating the position to Narrogin, Perth or Bunbury for suitable applicants that are able to travel to work in the Local Governments areas detailed above.
THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new area within DFES that is committed to realising integrated, community focused bushfire risk management practices across the State. In this role you will be responsible for the development and implementation of bushfire risk management plans to enhance the overall protection of communities and infrastructure from bushfire. You will liaising with key stakeholders to identify assets, identify environmentally sustainable fire risk management priorities and assist with the planning and coordination of bushfire treatment strategies. In this role you will be working closely with the local government to identify bushfire risk for nominated commutes to develop effective treatment strategies to manage identified bushfire risks.
ESSENTIAL PRE-REQUISITE
Possession of a current C Class Western Australian driver’s licence (as a minimum) which must remain valid for the duration of employment.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Demonstrated significant experience in risk planning and management including development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrated understanding of bushfire risk management planning processes, policies and legislation.
- Ability to develop, implement and coordinate strategic level planning processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including experience in developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
- An ability to effectively deal with conflict and negotiate outcomes to achieve outcomes.
- Experience in managing concurrent activities with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
DESIRABLE
- Experience in rural fire management and/or bushfire fighting and/or familiarity with principles of bushfire behaviour.
- Possession of, or progress towards, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
- Experience in working with regional Local Government and communities.
