The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) invites applications from suitably qualified people with substantial operational management experiences to be considered for inclusion in the Chief Superintendent pool. The current vacancy requires the successful applicant to possess an Urban (U firefighting hazard background). The pool will run for a period of twelve months.
Chief Superintendents are responsible for-
- Ensuring a high standard of operational preparedness and assurance, including development and review of emergency response plans and the management of multiple geographical regions within the State.
- Assuming command and control of major emergencies as required.
- Effective coordination of all available resources within allocated regions to achieve best practice in service deliver responsibilities and work practices which contributes to building community resilience.
DFES has a senior officer rotation policy which requires Chief Superintendents to work in a variety of roles and locations within the Department.
Successful applicants may be offered temporary opportunities or permanent promotion to the rank.
Chief Superintendents will be required to work after hours and on weekends as part of a 320/8 Non-rostered shift work and will be required to participate in an on call roster.

The suitability of individuals to specific Chief Superintendents may be subject to specific requirements. This includes the hazard background of the individual (e.g. Urban Fire, Bush Fire or Natural Hazard).
Selection Process:
Applicants short listed for further consideration will be required to participate in both an interview and a written exercise to assess their communication, stakeholder management and managerial skills.
